1. Will I get a free dongle and cable?
- No, but that’s only because there is no dongle or cable to install. Daimler Truck already factory-installed the telematics hardware in your truck. When you combine that with the Class8 app, you have an FMCSA compliant ELD.
2. Why don’t you use a separate ELD device?
a. Daimler Truck already factory-installed the telematics hardware in your truck so you don’t need a separate ELD device.
b. Cellular coverage is also much better than it used to be so it’s a lot easier to do this today than it was when the ELD mandate dropped in 2017. Take a look:

3. What trucks / models can use the free Class8 ELD?
- Class8 works with North American built Daimler and Freightliner trucks, 2019 model years and newer. Some exceptions may apply.
4. What if my truck doesn’t have factory installed telematics?
